Application of waterproofing and large-sized ceramics on concrete and plastered surfaces
Surface preparation
Correct preparation of the surface is important for the application and waterproofing of large-sized ceramics on concrete and plastered surfaces. The surface must be sound, dry, clean, dust-free and bearing. All oil, rust, grease and paraffin residues that could reduce the surface adhesion must be completely removed. There should be no more scraps on the surface, the surface should be saturated with moisture so that the adhesive and insulation materials adhere firmly to the surface.
If there are excess pieces of iron and wood on the surface, they should be removed and these gaps repaired with a suitable repair material. After the repair work is finished, the surface should be primed with Universal Primer to reduce the water absorption of the surface and create a strong adhesion surface.
Application of waterproofing
Two-component flexible waterproofing materials should be used for wet areas, especially bathrooms. In such spaces, Izopower B40 or fully elastic B70 UV Izopower waterproofing products are ideal. Joint lines in floors, walls and corners may have weak points, so these areas should be reinforced with Isopower Pah Bands.
The first layer of waterproofing should be applied with a brush or roller. The exact center of the chamfer band should be placed so that it coincides with the line of joining of the surfaces. Each layer should be applied in opposite directions to ensure complete waterproofing. Depending on the ambient temperature, wait 5-6 hours between each layer. After application, the waterproofing layer should be allowed to dry completely for at least 7 days, and the integrity of the insulation should be checked within 24 hours by conducting leak tests.
Ceramic bonding and joint filling application
After the waterproofing is completely dry, special adhesive materials should be used for large-sized ceramic applications. Large ceramic tiles require a stronger adhesive because they are heavy. Products included in EN12004-1 class C2, such as FugaPower Flex CG2W or FugaPower Pro CG2W, are ideal for this type of work.
FugaPower Regular CG1 or FugaPower Pro CG2W joint fillers should be used as joint fillers after ceramic application in wet areas. These joint fillers protect the water resistance and aesthetic appearance of the ceramic, as well as provide long-lasting quality.
