Waterproofing and ceramic application processes in swimming pools
Surface preparation
Proper surface preparation is very important when applying waterproofing and ceramics to swimming pools. The application area must be sound, dry, clean, dust-free and transportable. The surface must be completely cleaned of oil, rust, lubricating oil and paraffin residues, which can weaken the adhesion. There should be no more debris on the surface and the surface should be saturated with moisture.
If there are excess pieces of iron or wood on the surface, they should be removed and the gaps repaired two days in advance with a suitable repair material. After that, the surface should be primed with Universal Primer to reduce its absorbency and ensure a strong adhesion surface. It is important to note that insulation work should not be carried out in areas that are frozen, thawing or at risk of freezing within 24 hours, as these conditions may damage the insulation process.
Application of waterproofing
Swimming pools must be waterproofed before applying ceramic tiles and mosaics. For this, cement-based, two-component flexible waterproofing material Izopower B70 UV or Izopower B40 should be used. Especially the joint lines on the floor, walls and corners are weak points, so these areas should be reinforced with Isopower Pah Bands.
The first layer of waterproofing should be applied with a brush or roller, and the chamfer band should be placed so that it coincides with the joint line of the surfaces. Each layer should be applied in opposite directions so that the insulation is maximally effective. A waiting period of 5-6 hours is required between coats. After application, the waterproofing should be allowed to dry completely for at least 7 days, and leak tests should be carried out within 24 hours after this period.
Ceramic adhesive and joint filler application
After the waterproofing has dried, the application of ceramic or mosaic tiles can begin. Adhesives that meet the requirements of class C2 and S1 according to the EN12004-1 standard, for example FugaPower Flex CG2W or FugaPower Flex White CG2W are ideal for this job. These adhesives are resistant to high temperature changes and moisture, which is an important feature for swimming pools.
FugaPower Regular CG1 or FugaPower Pro CG2W should be used as a joint filler, silicone-containing, flexible and antibacterial, which ensures long-term quality and durability. These products provide water tightness in the pool and at the same time protect the aesthetic appearance.
