Correct Adhesive Selection and Application for Natural Stones

Correct Adhesive Selection and Application for Natural Stones

Surface Preparation

The application area should be solid, dry, clean, dust-free, and load-bearing. All oil, rust, thick lubricants, and paraffin residues that weaken adhesion must be cleaned, and there should be no loose particles on the surface, nor should it be damp. The surface should be primed to reduce absorbency and ensure a strong adhesion surface. Any protruding iron and wooden parts should be removed if present, and gaps should be filled two days in advance with a suitable repair material.

Ceramic Bonding, Joint Filling Application, and Protection

For outdoor use with natural stone cladding, the adhesive should be selected considering factors such as the size, weight, and absorbency of the stone. For light-colored natural stones, an adhesive with additional properties enhanced to C2 class according to EN12004-1, such as CERAM® FLEX WHITE, should be used to prevent color changes. For dark-colored stones, CERAM ULTRA or CERAM FLEX can be used. For durable joint filling, a silicone-based, elastic, and antibacterial joint filler like FugaPower Flex CG2W or FugaPower Pro CG2W should be used. To prevent water absorbency in dense, rocky, outdoor environments, IZOPOWER® impregnation insulation materials should be used.
