Application of large-sized ceramic tiles on concrete and plastered surfaces
Surface preparation
Surface preparation is one of the most important stages when applying large-sized ceramics. The application area must be sound, dry, clean, dust-free and transportable. All oil, rust, grease and paraffin residues that could weaken the adhesion must be completely removed. The surface should be free of chips and the surface should be saturated with moisture so that ceramic adhesives adhere well to the surface. In addition, it is important to prime the surface with the water absorption of the surface is reduced and the adhesion surface is strong.
If there are iron or wooden pieces on the surface, they should be removed and the gaps repaired two days in advance with a suitable repair material. These repairs ensure the restoration of the surface and help the adhesives to perform better.
Ceramic bonding and joint filling application
During the application of large-sized ceramics, a double-sided bonding method should be used. In this method, the adhesive must be applied both to the bottom of the ceramic and to the surface to be applied. This ensures better adhesion of the ceramic and gives long-term durability. During the double-sided bonding process, very little joint space should be left, as large ceramic tiles can cause stress if they are not properly placed.
For gluing large ceramic tiles, special adhesives of class C2 according to EN12004-1 standards, such as FugaPower Flex CG2W, should be used. This type of adhesive supports the weight of ceramics and ensures the longevity of the surface.
FugaPower Regular CG1 or FugaPower Pro CG2W products containing silicone, flexible and antibacterial should be used for joint filling. These joint fillers protect the aesthetic appearance of ceramics and provide waterproofing.
Ceramic application to vertical surfaces
The application of large-sized ceramics on vertical surfaces can be carried out using the gluing method up to a height of 4 meters. However, on vertical surfaces above 4 meters, ceramic tiles should be installed by mechanical assembly method. This ensures that the tiles stay securely in place and stay strong for a long time.
